Very good. Thank you for the help. I did not realize that 6V operation was possible, so it is useful to know and use that.
I modified a boostxl-drv8301 and put a 10 ohm resistor in series with PVDD1 to measure current draw. Specifications are as above at 100 kHz, but looking at varying Vbus to better understand the loss. I took discrete points but noticed that Ipvdd1 was constant for ranges of voltage and would switch to new lower currents over about a 1 V range. I recorded all the steps seen.
Vbus (V) | Ipvdd1, pwm off (mA) | Ipvdd1, pwm on (mA) |
6 | 8 | 38.9 |
12 | 4.2 | 45.5 |
15 | 4.1 | 25 |
24 | 4.1 | 25 |
36 | 4.1 | 15 |
40 | 4.1 | 16.7 |
Would there be any way to predict Ipvdd1 from the calculated 18.6 mA gate drive? It's rather a good amount of loss to drive at 48V.
Sort of related, can GVDD be provided externally on this IC to save power?
