Hello John,
The internal resistance for the mode pin as stated in datasheet section 6.5 is 100k ohms. if the pin is left floating the bridge control mode defaults to IN/IN mode.
If they want to add the footprint for the pull-down resistor and leave it unpopulated if not needed that would work. Thanks.
