MCT8315A: Reserved bit of TRAP_CONFIG1 must be set to 1

Part Number: MCT8315A

Tool/software:

Hi,

I use a MTC8315AIV on a custom board and I have a strange behavior when I configure EEPROM register TRAP_CONFIG1 .

According to the datasheed the bit 19 of TRAP_CONFIG1 is reserved and I would expect that its value would be ignored as it it inside a configurable register.

But when I set 0, the motor does not start and when this bit is set to 1, the motor starts normally.

Can you please tell me if this observed behavior is normal?

Thanks,

Simon

DRV8251: Retry While Using the Demo Board

Part Number: DRV8251

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using the DRV8251EVM to test a motor. When I lock the motor, I trigger the OCP but the chip goes into retry mode.

As far as I know, the board has the DRV8251 and not the DRV8251A.

I modified the board to by-pass the microcontroller and I'm driving IN1 and IN2 with 3.3V and GND, respectively. I still get a retry from the chip.

the board still has the default 0.15 Ohms sense resistor.

When I drive the motor straight from a bench supply, locking the motor triggers the OC on the supply.

Is there a reason why the DRV8251 would behave that way?

Hi.

In DRV3256A, we are trying to reset the fault from Clear fault bit IC_CTRL_1 --> CLR_FLT--> 1b1. we tried multiple times, but fault persists, let us know the reason.

Currently we used to clear the fault by reset with power supply.

Hi,

  1.  We have used TI launch pad boards (LAUNCHXL-F28069M) for the model  based development and tested our motor with closed loop configuration. We have used MATLAB model to achieve 6 step commutation.

The  motor is rotating good with control cycle of 500us. When we reduce the control cycle we are observing the control is getting affected because of hall sensor noise. We see that the state is skipping. Can you please let me know if there is anything that we are missing?

Attached the hall  waveform we are getting when the motor is moving.

MCT8316Z-Q1: nFAULT indication due to NPOR bit

$

Part Number: MCT8316Z-Q1

Tool/software:

hi,

i am using MCT8316 with SPI interface on a custom board

after power up nFAULT is pulled low.

when reading internal registers, NPOR bit is indicated as fault (bit 3 in IC_Status_Register = 0. all other fault bits are 0)

this error persists even after toggling nSLEEP signal for long period (1 second) or short period (30 micro seconds). according to datasheet this should clear the fault.

input voltage is 24V, AVDD voltage is 3.3v, buck voltage is 3.3v.

as per datasheet there are two possible power up sequences, one with VM and one with nSLEEP.

VM from datasheet, nFAULT recovers:

VM from design, nFAULT stays low:

nSLEEP from datasheet:

nSLEEP from design:

short pulse of 30 micro seconds on nSLEEP does not reset the fault:

clearing fault via SPI does reset the fault and the driver works properly.

but why fault signal is reported in the first place?

MCF8315EVM: The motor will not turn and the motor drive wires never get driven, how do diagnose the fault

Part Number: MCF8315EVM

I have this EVM board running at 24V connected to a maxon motor.

When I power it up I cant get the motor to turn it is as if the system has a fault.

The gate driver Faults and Controller Faults appear to show that every fault is active.  Is there anything I can do to get the faults to clear?

DRV8214: Inquiry on Real-time Parameter Readout via I2C and Internal ADC Specs

Part Number: DRV8214

Tool/software:

Hello TI Support Team,

I’m working with the DRV8214 and have a few questions about motor performance parameters that I couldn’t find in the datasheet. Specifically:

  1. Is it possible to read motor voltage, current, and speed in real time via I2C while the motor is running? If yes, what is the update rate for related registers like RC_CNT ?
  2. The datasheet includes an internal ADC in the motor current and speed control loop diagram, but I haven’t found details like its Resolution, SPS, type, etc.

Thank you for your assistance in understanding these features.

Part Number: DRV8870

Tool/software:

Hi Team

I have two question about DRV8870.

1. do H bridge need a reverse current protection? or it default need a reverse current so VM need to handle reverse current?

2. why Ivm here is only mA scale? because it look like same path with output current.

I think it current level should be also A scale. or it's other definition for below block diagram.

DRV8242S-Q1EVM: How to stop motor using external GPIO commands?

$

Part Number: DRV8242S-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPM0G3507

Tool/software:

I'm looking to validate a motor control algorithm programmed on an MSPM0G3507 and I'm using a DRV8242 EVM to test it on a motor. I've taken the CSA signal from the DRV and connected it to the ADC on the M0, which takes the signal and converts it into a ripple count for rotor position estimation. The idea is that once the number of ripples reaches a certain number, say 100 or 1000, the motor would be commanded to stop. The problem is, the number of ripples is a variable calculated and stored only on the M0.

Does the DRV8242 allow for some kind of general-purpose input functionality, such that when a certain pin is set low or high it could command the motor to stop? I figure I could hardwire one of the GPIO outputs on the M0 and set it high once the ripple count has surpassed a certain value. My question is, could I connect this GPIO output to a point on the DRV to get the motor to stop when the command is received?

Let me know if there are any questions about my test setup here.

DRV8215: tTURNOFF for nSLEEP

$

Part Number: DRV8215

Tool/software:

Team,

DRV8215 datasheet mentions on page 33:

7.4.2 Low-Power Sleep Mode When the nSLEEP pin is low for tTURNOFF time, the DRV8215 enters a low-power sleep mode. In sleep mode, the outputs remain High-Z and the device draws minimal current from the supply pin (IVMQ or IVCCQ). After nSLEEP is set high for longer than the duration of tWAKE, the device becomes fully operational.

Unfortunately the datasheet does not specify tTURNOFF... Customer needs to know the min. tTURNOFF time in order to use this functionality.

Can you give this specification?

SPEED-FDBK register  offset   76Eh

Question: When it is OUTA-OUTC-OUTB, does the faster the speed, the smaller the value of this register for negative numbers. For example, for a speed of 200RPM, the feedback value of this register is -100. For a speed of 400RPM, the feedback value of this register is -200. Is that correct?

Hello,

Our company developing a robotic manipulator for bronchoscopy procedure. Our regulation consultant guided us to use motor drive certified for IEC60601.

Do TI has drives that are certified? I saw that you have a medical application with your product but i couldn't find any reference for the different standards it certified for.

Thank you
