There should be no problem using a 3.3V mcu. The DRV8844EVM uses a 3.3V mcu to control the DRV8844.

The inputs of the DRV8844 are high impedance (typically 100kOhm). A 3.3V mcu can easily drive the inputs to almost 3.3V, well above the 2.2V minimum.
