BOOSTXL-DRV8301: Motor Specs for the LVBLDC-LB-BNDL (Motor Part - DN4240S24-026-TI)

Part Number: BOOSTXL-DRV8301

The Motor Drive Bundle LVBLDC-LB-BNDL sold by TI contains a motor of which no specifications are included or mentioned. In order to use the MotorWare lab manual these specs need to be set. If someone from TI or the supplying company (Telco Intercon) could provide them it would be very much appreciated. I should note that there is some information for a motor posted here but careful inspection of the part number reveals the part in the kit is a DN4240 while the specks on the page are for the DN4241.

DRV8835: Minimum Operating Voltage for VM

Part Number: DRV8835

Hi,

According to DRV8835 data sheet, the recommended operation range for the motor power supply voltage(VM) is from 0V to 11V.
So, could please tell me the minimum voltage at which DRV8835 actually works normally ?

Best regards,
Kato

DRV8305-Q1EVM: replace to DRV83055 from DRV8305N

Part Number: DRV8305-Q1EVM

Hi

WE are going to evaluate DRV83055. And we will replace from DRV8305 to DRV83055 on DRV8305-Q1EVM.

However I think we need to modify some component to operate DRV83055 on EVM instead of DRV8305N. (Espacially, the components around VREG pin.)

For expample, the VREG is supplied by external LDO on the default EVM.
To replace to DRV83055, we need to remove the R34 which is series resistor of the path from 3.3V LDO as well.

Do you think is it correct? If it so, any other modified do we need?

I have figured out the problem. It turned out to be a poor soldering job and the GH_C and SH_C pins were shorted. After removing the short, everything is working perfectly now. Thanks!

DRV8302: GVDD undervolts during switching

Part Number: DRV8302

I'm implementing a BLDC controller using the DRV8302 chip and IRFS7530 fets. I am debugging a problem where GVDD drops rapidly and causes a GVDD undervolt fault. So far, I have done some preliminary analysis. I have the system running at 12V and have a 1000uF capacitor near the FETs. From probing, I can see that PVDD, DVDD, and AVDD are all stable at the correct voltages. GVDD is stable at about 11V when there is no switching, but when it tries to switch the FETs, the voltage drops to 8V in a few uS (I will try to get a scope capture). Weirdly, this only happens when I have a motor connected and does not happen when there is no motor. Because I am using FETs with large gate charge (236nC), I have the switching frequency limited to max of 20kHz to stay under the 30mA gate driver current limit.

My question is what are some main causes for GVDD to drop so rapidly? Is it possible that the internal charge pump has failed?

I have attached my schematic for the DRV8302 and power fets for reference.

DRV8711: is BEMF pin optional?

Part Number: DRV8711

Hi all,

I try to run motor using the DRV8711 but have not got any success so far. When I enable the motor through SPI getting 0x04 fault error over status registers which is over-current protection error. I realised that the BEMF left open in schematics. Do you think it could be reason of getting this error? Or any idea how to debug the board for that specific problem?

Here my design parameters:

VM:24V Rsense:0.03 ohms MOSFET: BUK7M10-40E  Motor Current:0.8A/phase Motor Resistance 13 ohm/phase

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

DRV8703-Q1: Rshunt, Ichopp, Over-current

Part Number: DRV8703-Q1

Dear *,

a wan to drive a BDC with TI DRV8703-Q1.

Specification of Power Window motor is:

no load current <=3A
load rating current <=7A
locked current <=20A

1) I saw that the DRV8703-Q1 has some fault conditions like detecting the max current.

Please can you tell me how can i adjust the trip, in order to get the fault over-current condition?

2)Please can you explain the Ichop current -> should i set the Ichop to 7A or to 20A ?

3) what is the right way to size the Rshunt , if i want to measure the max load current ( i assume that the 7A is the max )

Rshunt= (Vso/Av)/Imax = (5V / 20) / 7A = 35mOhm ??

4) How does now the Rshunt influence the Ichop and the over-current ?

Best Regards.

Hi Hamamoto-san,

What is the goal of changing the device to DRV83055? There could be other issues that need addressing, such as the diode protection to VREG/VREF no longer protects the mcu.

Hi Mert,

The BEMF pin is not required. It is there for information and should have no effect on the fault.

Have you changed to 30milliOhms for the sense resistor? Are the register settings the same as your last post?
(0x0, 0xF13)
(1, 0x137)
(2, 0x04D)
(3, 0x1FF)
(4, 0x50A)
(5, 0x900)
(6, 0x555)
(7, 0x000)

Do you ever get a 0x02 fault? If not, please check the connections.

If you do, please try setting the setting the OCPTH to 11.

Hi d_zero,

1) I saw that the DRV8703-Q1 has some fault conditions like detecting the max current.
Set the fault overcurrent through the VDS control register. The value depends on the RDSon of the FET and the desired overcurrent level.
2)Please can you explain the Ichop current -> should i set the Ichop to 7A or to 20A ?
The chopping current value is up to you and the system requirements. Please keep in mind there will be some variation from device to device.
3) what is the right way to size the Rshunt , if i want to measure the max load current ( i assume that the 7A is the max )

Rshunt= (Vso/Av)/Imax = (5V / 20) / 7A = 35mOhm ??
It is up to you to decide what chopping level you want.

Ideally using a low Rshunt value is best. If you can use a 20mOhm with a 2.8V Vref, that is better as it reduces the power in the shunt resistor.
4) How does now the Rshunt influence the Ichop and the over-current ?
The Rshunt affects the chopping, and can potentially disable overcurrent. If the device is constantly chopping at a lower current, the VDS monitor will not see an overcurrent condition.

Hi Rick,

Yes I have changed sense resistor to the 30milliOhms and I am using the same setting as you stated above.

I never get 0x02 fault always getting 0x04 fault. When I disable the motor it disappears after clearing status register and come back when the motor is enabled. Also from the power supply I can see that current level is not changing at all and staying at 0.01A where VM is 24V.

What do you mean by connections? The schematic is already printed on PCB. I dont think there should be problem with connections.

Thanks,

DRV8308: Rotor Lock (RLOCK) Protection Feature in the new datasheet

$

Part Number: DRV8308

Hello everyone,

In the DRV8308 datasheet released at 13 Nov 2017, it seems that rotor lock protection feature is removed. We have some old stock that we are currently using in our application and we can see that rotor lock protection feature is active in these chips and cannot be disabled. The device part numbers seem to be same in both the new datasheet and the older one. If we order the same device, how can we be sure that it doesn't have this RLOCK feature? Is there a way to disable this feature by editing some reserved registers in the older devices? Or the architecture of the newer devices are different from the previous versions?

Regards.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for prompt reply.
I am using the sample code base in the control suite as you pointed out.
Actually the stepper sample code runs in debug mode with speedref variable input. I wonder how to change the pulse counts from GPIO step pin input into SpeedRef variable. Or if I need to invite new scheme to change pulse input to target voltage, what should I concern mostly to achieve balanced operation among ADC, PI control loop, Step pin GPIO ISR without time jitter ?

Hi,

I want to look up a sample code to apply STEP/DIR interface to DRV8412-C2-KIT example project ( stepper project )

Is anybody there have such a sample code ? Would you share me the sample code if available.

thanks
