DRV8323R: DRV** + CSD**

$

Part Number: DRV8323R

5 questions if I may;

1.      Is there anything that would stop us using DRV** (for example DRV8232) + CSD** (for example CSD88584Q5DC) in high-end sinusoidal inverter applications?

2.      I understand that a resistor (Rsense) can be connected as per the attached document and voltage across this resistor expresses the phase current. This voltage is fed through the Gate Driver amplifier and can be used for accurate current feedback in a high-end inverter application. Is that correct?

3.      The Gate Driver provides the isolation needed in that case. Correct?

4.      VDS expresses well the phase current. Can we have access to VDS for accurate current feedback in high-end inverter applications or is it only for over current monitoring

5.      How can I know the physical size of a DRV** evaluation board. For example DRV8306EVM

RE: DRV3245Q-Q1: CRC execution

Hi Marco,

The CRC calculation is performed on internal hardware logic.

However, in order for the SPI CRC to be correctly implemented, the MCU controlling the DRV3245 must also calculate its own CRC values to compare against the values calculated by the DRV3245. (This is not necessary for the EEPROM/Configuration Data CRCs).

Details about how to implement the SPI CRC on the controlling MCU can be found in an application note in the same mySecure folder as the datasheet.

Thanks,
Garrett

RE: UC3625: Availability of UC3625 IC in SOIC package

Hey Adam,

TI doesn’t guarantee or have a time table to when SOIC package will be discontinued. Discontinuing a part depends on fab capabilities, package availability, easiness of manufacturing or whether there are enough orders/customers for the part.

However, TI currently has many devices which use this package; this means although there is no guarantee, customer orders with UC6325DW should be supported in the near term.

Let me know if this answers your question or if you need any other help.

Sincerely,
Sanmesh U.

Part Number: UC3625

For a number of years we have made use of the UC3625Q Motor Driver IC in its 28 pin PLCC package and this is now discontinued. I realise that the SOIC package is still available but can anyone confirm the likely lifespan of this variant, please? Obviously we'd rather not re-design three of our PCBs to accept the SOIC package only to find out that this is also going to be made obsolete soon!

Thanks,

Adam.

DRV8848: DC Motor Controllers

Part Number: DRV8848

Hi

In using Brushed Motor Controllers DRV 88xx (such as DRV8801, 8840...DRV8848....etc);

·        None of these DRV88** can report the actual value of the current to the MCU. Correct?

·        We cannot control the current of the motor all the time. Correct?

·        At best we can set the current level to 1 one of 32 values (as happens in DRV8843. A feature that is not available in every DRV88**). Correct?

·        Even if we PWM the enable pin we still cannot control the current accurately because the MCU does not get current feedback and hence has no way to accurately control that PWMed signal to generate accurate current control.

·        The only exception to all the above is DRV 887*. Correct?

·        Is there any other DRV88** in the family that provides current feedback to the MCU?

·        Is there any DRV88** in the family that provides can adjust the current level continuously (rather than to 32 levels)?

·        If we use one of the evaluation board (say EVM DRV8848)….it has MCU on-board….what is the easiest way to get access to one of the analog pins of that MCU…we would like to provide current sensor feedback to that pin ?

Sam

DRV8846EVM: Can’t trigger the GUI V1_0 program for DRV8846EVM on Windows7 PC

Part Number: DRV8846EVM

Hi Team,

A customer has asked that he can’t trigger DRV8846EVM GUI on Windows 7 PC.

I’ve reproduced the trouble as bellow.

I downloaded “DRV8846EVM Software (Rev. A) 11 Dec 2014” and installed it into my Windows7 PC. The USB driver and GUI v1_0 have been installed normally. The status LED on EVM is blinking.

But I can’t trigger launch.exe, it seems no action. With testing Windows7 compatibility test, it’s incompatible.

Could you please let us know workarounds for this trouble or release GUI program for Windows7?

Best regards,
Kazuo Yamauchi

Thanks for your reply.

Ans1: I have used Rsense= 5mohm as you can see schematics attached with the post.

Ans: My register configuration is:
//0xaddress,0xdata
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x06,0x0F2); //DRIVE
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x05,0x0020); //STALL
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x04,0x0305); //DECAY
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x03,0x09a); //BLANK
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x02,0x005); //OFF
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x01,0x003); //TORQUE 0x017f
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x07,0x0000); //CTRL
SPI_DRV8711_Write(0x07,0x0000);

motor still makes noise and vibration. although no excessive heat.

Thank you Leonard.

Sorry, CT Scan picture is not upload.
my question means,
Big air bubbles are seen in the solder-binding part center of the thermal pad.
DRV8837 Does performance not have the influence?

Hello Wang Li,

1. I've sent you the current schematic im using through e2e private message. I did not use pull-up resistors on I[4:0] pins.
2. Im sorry i do not have access to an oscilloscope, the reading on my multimeter does not go pass 0.6 A but the spike might too fast for the multimeter to detect it.

I apologize for the late reply.
Thanks again,
Marion

DRV8829: DRV8829 with linear actuator

Part Number: DRV8829

Hello Good day,

I have a DRV8829 setup like the typical application page in the datasheet, i am trying to drive a 12V, 0.5A typical linear actuator (it becomes open when it reaches one end).

I notice that the fault pin goes LOW when the linear actuator reaches one end indicating that the protection was activated. It can't be over-temperature because nothing goes hot,

it can't be under voltage because voltage supplied to VM is constant (12V), so it must be overcurrent, but i dont understand why since my linear actuator only reaches up to 0.5 A.

Part Number: DRV2605EVM-CT

Hello,

Our customer use the DRV2605EVM-CT.

The customer want to evaluate the ROM Library mode using an external trigger signal to the PWM test point.

Is that possible?

If it is possible, how to configuration the evaluation kit?

Best Regards,

Naoki Aoyama

Hi Wang,
I pushed MCU-RST button to reset MSP430, but Status LED does not turn on and not blink.
As I mentioned before, MSP430's XIN and XOUT stay constant voltage, not oscillating.

I asked TI local customer support about this, he also suspects the MSP430 defect.

We need to check the DRV8840 performance immediately. Is there any good way to solve this issue?

Best Regards,
Shuhei

Part Number: DRV8840EVM

Hi,

I am trying to evaluate DRV8840EVM, but it does not work.

I set up the USB connection and GUI software but the USB communication is not available.

MSP430 status LED does not blink, and XIN/XOUT keeps DC voltage (0V/1.6V).

3.3V LED is turning on and I have checked the VDD voltage ok.

I am wondering if there is any problem on MSP430 or 8MHz crystal but I am not sure.

Please advise me what I should do.

Shuhei

Hi:

I want to ask about the DRV10970, now ,I drive the motor at 30 rotations per second, but the torque is very small, and it stops with slight load. Sometimes the 5s can be restored, and sometimes it stops completely. I need to increase the power by myself,How do you solve this problem?

Hi ,

Thanks for the responce ...!

As you mention above i have downloaded the MOTORWARE but in that Kit DRV8353RH related files such as example codes not there. We want  to interface  DRV8353RH kit  with the  BLDC  motor which has hall sensor output from motor. Please let us from where we can get reference code.So we can proceed further......!!!

Please find the attached Image
