DRV8871 startup

Hello,Our customer now trying to use DRV8871, but their startup current is too big(about 5A/1us) and the device could not operate correctly. It seems that it due to current regulation (not OCP), so they...

RE: GND and GVDD_C connection on DRV8332

Hi Rick, thank you very much for your answers and the links. They are very useful. What kind of thermal grease should be used between the driver and its heat sink? Something electrically conducting, I...

GND and GVDD_C connection on DRV8332

Hello, please answer the following questions:1. What is the best place to connect the GND and GND_X grounds?2. It is recommended to connect the heat sink attached to the DRV8332 to GND. Can you give a...

RE: GND and GVDD_C connection on DRV8332

Hi Rick, I have read section 10.3 of the DRV8432 datasheet. The suggested thermal compound is Ceramique from Arctic Silver. But this compound is insulating. Therefore, the chip's thermal pad will not...

RE: GND and GVDD_C connection on DRV8332

Hi Michael, You are correct; the thermal pad will not be grounded with insulating thermal compound. The thermal slug does not need external grounding, but we consider it good practice to connect the...

RE: GND and GVDD_C connection on DRV8332

Rick, I didn't realize it at once, but now another question arises: If the thermal slug is conductively attached to the substrate of the die, and the thermal compound does not completely insulate the...

RE: GND and GVDD_C connection on DRV8332

Hi Michael, If the heatsink is grounded, there is no problem. This is similar to the DRV8312 thermal pad, which relies on the ground plane to dissipate the heat.

RE: DRV8303 gate output problems

Hi Osman, It does appear that a fault is shutting down the FETs in Figure 1, but there is more information to confirm it really is. Can you also capture the SH_A pin, so the high side gate to source...

RE: DRV8303 gate output problems

Hi Osman, Another question: When the fault occurred, did you read the status register to determine the fault?

RE: DRV8303 gate output problems

Mr. Duncan,Thank you for your response. I'll gladly do this tomorrow morning when I get back to the setup. Is there anything else you would like to see?FYI, I've tried omitting the pull-down resistors...

RE: DRV8303 gate output problems

Hi Osman, If you get a chance, please look at the GVDD, AVDD, DVDD, and PVDD when the fault occurs. As you mentioned, it appears there is no ceramic cap near the DRV8303. This could cause PVDD to...

RE: DRV8303 gate output problems

Mr. Duncan, I'll make sure to also capture GVDD, AVDD, DVDD and PVDD along with the nFault pin. Do you have a recommendation for the size of the ceramic capacitor on PVDD? I do have a 470uF...

RE: DRV8303 gate output problems

Hi Osman, Please refer to Table 3 of the datasheet for capacitor recommendations. Using the power supply current reading or a DMM in-line provides average current. Ideally the current probe shows what...
